National and Regional Conferences
All SHPE members will have the opportunity to attend SHPE National and Regional conferences throughout the year. These conferences promote the exchange of information, encourage academic achievement and professional excellence, and recognize outstanding achievements by chapters and members. Students, as well as professionals, are able to network through seminars, workshops, business meetings, career fairs and social events.
College Preparation Program
This program is designed to increase the recruitment of Hispanic engineering students at Virginia Tech. Officers and members of our SHPE chapter will visit a number of high schools, both locally and in the Northern Virginia area, to inform Hispanic students of the many opportunities Virginia Tech has to offer. We will help those students who are interested in pursuing careers in engineering, mathematics, and science, to better prepare for their future college education. In the spring semester, SHPE will offer a program that will give the graduating Hispanic high school students who have been accepted and chosen to enroll at Virginia Tech, the opportunity to visit the campus and become better acquainted with the Blacksburg area.
Meetings
General meetings are held once a month; the location is TBA. Career workshops are usually held twice a semester. For the 2008-2009, we have several events planned. Updated meeting information and important announcements will be forwarded to all members on our e-mailing list. Be sure to check the website frequently.
